Feel transported to your favorite city with a selection of abstract maps by Jennifer Carland of Carland Cartography. Focusing on art that makes you feel “at home,” Jennifer creates hand-drawn fine art of abstracted street maps, illustrating various places, near and far.
We’re excited to welcome Jennifer Carland of Carland Cartography to the Chicago Artisan Market at Morgan MFG (401 N. Morgan St., Chicago) on Sunday, September 22, 2019 (10am-4pm) along with top Chicago & Midwest artisans in food, fashion, home goods + art.
Bring your adventures home – keep a reminder of your favorite place on the globe with a colorful piece of artwork illustrating your travels or a local source of home town pride. The goal is to make artful reminders of the places people identify with, such as the town they lived in as a child, or the place where they got married. They can serve as a celebration of the locations that make your life story unique, and different from someone else’s journey.
• Handmade: Every piece is hand-drawn using a combination of mixed artistic materials as it plays with colors, lines and textures. Unlike computer generated maps, you can see the passion and imagination poured into every piece to provide an artisanal experience for customers.
• Meaningful: Re-live your most treasured memories with a vibrant, abstract piece of artwork that pinpoints a special location in your life. These prints will stand out in your home or office and spark conversations about your travels and where you want to go next.
• Sustainable: Each piece is made with minimal waste and the printer received the Green Business Certification Award.
All of Jennifer’s work is based on real geography. She tries to include all the major roadways and natural features, keeping in mind that the art is not focused on realism, but on the abstract. Jennifer changes the focus of each map from a tool to a story. Instead of just selling art prints, Carland Cartography provides personalized biographies to each one of their customers.
