The Trap Door Theatre is a strong reason to go away from the Loop for excellent Chicago Theatre.
Created as a traveling theatre group in 1990 that showcased much of its work in European cities, the Trap Door Theatre finally settled down in 1994 at its permanent base in Bucktown though it still travels as a company during its off-time.
The Trap Door Theatre has, since its inception, prided itself in finding and producing the most interesting and some of the most obscure theatrical pieces published.
Their hard work has paid off in a number of Jeff Nominations as well as a solid Chicago-area reputation for excellent and innovative theatre.
Previous award-winning productions have included:
Lebensraum: a Jeff citation and After Dark Award winning play focusing on the effects of the Holocaust on today?s youth.
- The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant : an After Dark Award winning play that focuses on the power plays in female relationships
- Emma: a Jeff Recommended play that tells the story of Emma Goldman the anarchist who was exiled from the United States.
