Florodora – A Downtown Boutique for Women

It was 1917 when Florodora owner Michael Blossom’s grandmother worked in the historic Monadnock building in downtown Chicago. 100 years later – now Michael works there, too.

With a background in retail and fashion, Michael knew owning his own boutique was his destiny. When he saw the vacancy sign in the Monadnock’s building, destiny met serendipity and what we have today is Florodora boutique.

His grandmother Florence sure would be proud, but the jazzy name that rolls oh-so-easily off the tongue isn’t 100% for her. Nope, Florodora’s name is an escapade of stories told eloquently well by Blossom himself. It was the era of the Florodora girls, a sexy chorusline from the early 1900s. And when we say sexy and early 1900s, one can only assume a little controversy is involved as well.

Representing these femmes of the past in the present ? la boutique style, is a finely-tuned marriage. Chic fabrics and funky but, elegant prints adorn the boutique. Shades of pastels make their mark in candles, rugs and more beautiful fabrics all throughout the cheery room. As for the space, the Edwardian influence and charm of the ol’ Monadnock only help all the more.

At the boutique, you’ll find several Chicago exclusives and chic brands carefully chosen by Blossom. They support independent designers & American-made products.

And don’t forget to check out sister store Florodora Shoes – also located in the Monandock Building just a few steps down the street at the corner of Dearborn and Van Buren Streets. To learn more about Florodora Shoes, please visit the website.

Come to Florodora to see for yourself and if you’re lucky, maybe you’ll even get the stories first-hand.
