Nestled just six miles west of the Magnificent Mile in a manufacturing district in Garfield Park, Metropolitan Farms is a thriving agricultural operation, producing locally-sourced tilapia, salad greens and culinary herbs year-round from within its state-of-the-art greenhouse. During this 90-minute tour with the farm’s founder, you’ll explore the outdoor grounds, the cut-flower farm of Avium Flowers and Dirt Doll’s vegetable farm. Plus, you’ll learn about the farm’s fascinating aquaponic system, which combines fish farming and a hydroponic growing system in a closed-loop facility without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
