As a patient in an experimental hospital chemotherapy program, a professor of 17th-century English poetry begins to reflect on her life and reassess her work. Demanding of herself and others, she’s allowed herself little time to cultivate a life outside of her all-consuming quest for knowledge. But when she’s diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she’s forced to confront her own mortality with a profundity and humor that transforms her. With no right or wrong answers, this provocative and profoundly moving play allows audiences to consider how to live, who to live for, and what to value most when we have little time left. Playwright Margaret Edson’s one-act won the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The Hypocrites present Wit as an homage to beloved collaborators and friends lost in recent months.
