The tone of your submission MUST be positive.   Be inclusive, inspiring and educational.

GENERAL GUIDELINES:

Share what you know best.  You’ll help people and inspire others to share back with the community.

  • Fashion:  Help our readers tackle or master fashion or wardrobe challenges that impact their everyday lives – be it in casual, work or social settings.
  • Beauty:   Share essential or luxurious beauty regimens that simplify and enhance.  The best kept beauty secrets are meant to be shared and enjoyed.
  • Living:   Everyone needs help in some aspect of their life, whether it’s convenient and healthy meal planning, decorating or organizing your home, or sustaining effective wellness routines.    Help our readers meet life’s challenges and reduce unnecessary stressors.
  • Culture:  We strive to give our readers special access to the amazing breadth of food, entertainment and cultural options in Chicago.  We also invite our readers and contributors to share “My Favorite Things to Do” in Chicago and “My Favorite Trips” from a travel perspective.
  • Career:   At some point in our lives, we all could use a life or career coach.  We encourage you to share your tips on how to manage (or reinvent) a career, develop productive relationships with co-workers and meet and exceed goals and objectives.

OTHER DO’S AND DON’TS

Do:

  • Be Original:  We give preference to posts that are unique and original to StyleChicago.com and have not been published, submitted, or scheduled elsewhere online (including your blog).
  • Include Photos
  • Submit a catchy title that grabs readers’ attention and makes them want to read your piece:  What problem or “pain point” does your article address? How will reading this make someone’s life better?
  • Open Strong:  Does your first sentence make the reader want to continue? Does your first paragraph tell the reader clearly and succinctly what the article will be about?
  • Provide concrete steps that readers can take to follow your advice.
  • Be conversational:  Write as if you are talking to your best friend.

Don’t:

  • Send SEO-driven submissions
  • We can’t use posts from content farms.
  • Don’t specifically write to plug a specific product or brand.
  • Please don’t hyperlink. Put links in brackets: [http://facebook.com/stylechicago].

  • Your working title and full post.  Send within the body of an email. Ideally, include title in subject line and/or clearly label your proposed title at the top of your post narrative.
  • Relevant images for your post. (Send as separate files, not pasted within a doc.) Send only images that you own.   Optimal size is 800 pixels wide x 530 pixels tall.
  • Your bio (50-100 words or less) with links to your website, Facebook, Linked In, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram pages, in brackets: [http://facebook.com/stylechicago].
  • A headshot or photo of you to use for your bio, if desired.

OTHER GUIDELINES:

  • Submit one post at a time. We read all submissions but can’t respond to everything. If your post has been accepted, we will respond within 30 days. If your post has not run within 30 days, we have passed. Feel free to submit a different post after 30 days.
  • By submitting to StyleChicago.com you acknowledge that you accept any form of editing the StyleChicago.com editorial team deems necessary.

IMAGE & VIDEO GUIDELINES:
• Ideal feature image is 800 pixels wide x 530 pixels tall (bigger in either direction, or both, is fine). Landscape format.
• Ideal author image is 200 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall
• The photo (or photos) should be original and high-quality. Each photo should be labeled to indicate what it represents.
• We welcome video submission; however, they must be less than 2 minutes.
• We prefer photos taken in good lighting (professional or natural).
• White or neutral-color backgrounds tend to work best.
• Photos should be taken on a clean, natural surface.
