The Second City Comedy Club

Celebrating nearly 50 years of cutting edge satire through improv-based sketch comedy, The Second City has established itself as a world renowned comedy institution. The alumni list reads like a Who’s Who of Comedy — Mike Nichols, Elaine May, Alan Arkin, Robert Klein, John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Bill Murray, John Candy, Mike Myers, Tina Fey and more all got their start at this famed institution.

The Second City opened its doors on a snowy Chicago night in December of 1959, and has since grown to become the world?s premier comedy club, theatre and school of improvisation?with live shows every night in Chicago, Toronto and Hollywood.

Bernard Sahlins, Howard Alk and Paul Sills founded the theater as a place where scenes and story were created improvisationally, using techniques that grew out of the innovative techniques Spolin developed and taught.

The Second City is located in Chicago’s Lincoln Park/Old Town neighborhood at 1616 N. Wells St. at North Ave.
