Stephen Daiter

Stephen Daiter Gallery, a gallery of fine 20th-century European and American photography, specializes in avant-garde, experimental, documentary and photojournalism works from the Chicago School of Design, the Bauhaus, the Photo League and the Andr? Kert?sz Estate.

As the only Chicago gallery that specializes in vintage 20th-century photography, Daiter Gallery runs an historically-conscious exhibition and publication program, often showcasing artists who have been underrepresented or overlooked by past scholars. Their passion is to ?rescue? deserving artists from obscurity and expose new aspects of established artists? work.

Daiter Gallery?s reputation for impeccable taste and quality artwork attracts customers nationwide. However, it is their strong personal service and open, welcoming atmosphere that turns visitors into clients and clients into friends.

?You don?t need to know anything about art to come into our gallery,? says director Paul Berlanga, ?and there are no stupid questions.?

Stephen Daiter Gallery operates in conjunction with Daiter Contemporary, a sister gallery that shows recent photographic work by emerging and mid-career artists. Both galleries maintain a concurrent exhibition schedule in a separate but conjoined space. Together, these galleries showcase the full spectrum of the photographic medium and all its artistic possibilities.
