Sher Berman Glass Beads by Chicago designer Sher Berman hand makes lampwork glass beads and bead crochet necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Sher has a passion for beads in all forms, and she creates her own lampwork glass beads in her home studio just outside Chicago.
How it’s made? Sher melts Italian glass glass rods with a torch to create the lampwork glass beads, which are then shaped, embellished and annealed in her kiln. The bead crochet is done by stringing various types of beads onto a cord and crocheting one bead at a time. She does all the intricate bead crochet work herself, from start to finish, and often combines the bead crochet with lampwork beads to create her distinctive Sher Berman jewelry.
We are excited to welcome Sher Berman to the Chicago Artisan Market on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 10am-4pm at Morgan MFG (401 N. Morgan St.), where she will join 110+ top artisans in food, fashion, home goods + art.
About Sher Berman:
Growing up in Chicago’s northern suburbs, Sher loved the annual “Focus on the Arts” at her high school. The school brought in professionals from all fields within the arts, and Sher was fascinated by all the jewelry classes she took. Her natural creativity was sparked, and she was challenged to create something unique. Sher went on to achieve a BFA in Graphic Design at the University of Iowa and worked for many years in Chicago as a graphic designer. She took a lampworking class and fell in love with it. The minute the glass bead torch was lit, she knew it was her calling.
