The Red Maple, by artist Vaiju Saraf, makes mosaic gift items and oil paintings. She has a distinctive style of creating mosaics using stained glass, smalti, ceramic tiles, metal pieces, rocks, slate and even burnt wood! She has made numerous wall arts, photo frames, trays, clocks, name plates, kids room decor and mosaic necklace pendants.
The sky is the limit for The Red Maple as Vaiju is always experimenting with different concepts and styles. She enjoys creating art fusions and combining two different art forms.
We are excited to welcome Vaiju Saraf of The Red Maple to the Chicago Artisan Market on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 10am-4pm at Morgan MFG (401 N. Morgan St.), where she will join 100+ top artisans in food, fashion, home goods + art.
During a visit to Turkey and Spain, Vaiju was mesmerized by mosaic art and decided to learn it. Mosaic is a decorative art with an assemblage of small pieces of colored glass, stone, or other materials. It is hard work and very time-consuming, but also tremendously satisfying.
Vaiju Saraf’s paintings generally include landscapes and nature, especially water and reflection and the autumn season. Autumn holds a special place in her heart, simply because of the variety of vibrant hues that one sees. The maple tree is her favorite tree and is also the inspiration for her company’s name.
