Judy Lynn, owner and designer at Mirabelle Studio, creates decorative boxes, book art, linocut prints, home accessories and stationery. The artist is known for merging contemporary looks with traditional book art techniques to create modern, unique and useful pieces. Her attention to detail, quality and function is evident in every piece.
Judy is passionate about combining her love of book arts with printmaking and surface pattern design. She uses traditional bookbinding and linocut tools along with a laptop and high-tech computer programs to create the Mirabelle Studio pieces.
Linocut is a printmaking technique that was used by Picasso and Matisse.
Even though technology has a role in the creation, at Mirabelle Stuido, they find it essential to keep the handmade feel in the final product from the individual construction of the books and boxes to the look and feel of the patterns.
Meet Judy Lynn, the artist/owner of Mirabelle Studio at the Chicago Artisan Market at Morgan Manufacturing (401 N. Morgan St., Chicago) on Sunday, September 16, 2018 (10am-4pm) along with Chicago’s finest artisans in food, fashion, home goods + art.
What is a mirabelle?
A mirabelle is a small yellow plum grown primarily for preserving. It inspires what the does and how she works in creating books and boxes to hold, store and preserve life’s moments.
The plum also symbolizes Judy’s love of nature and how it is an endless source of inspiration. This connection to nature also motivates her commitment to using eco-products and practices in the studio during the creative process of planting, cultivating and harvesting ideas into being.
Mirabelle Studio was founded by Judy Lynn, an artist in NW Indiana. She holds a BFA in graphic design with a minor in publishing and printing arts from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington.
Judy Lynn likes to mix things up when she designs her books and boxes. She combines unusual papers, patterns and her own block print images with traditional book art techniques to create pieces that are striking and functional. Her background in graphic design and her attention to detail are evident in every item she makes. Judy loves creating art that people use for their own memories and treasures.
