Kristin first thought about designing her own accessory collection when her son was born, and his grandmothers started knitting hats for him. They were knit of the most beautiful yarns and made of natural fibers. This made Kristin realize that an overwhelming number of hats on today?s market were made of synthetic fibers. This started Kristin on her adventure.
She found an amazing manufacturer in Nepal at the base of Mount Everest that responsibly sources one of the most luxurious natural fibers – Cashmere. It was a perfect match, and what really caught Kristin?s interest was that they produced their items manually! The scarves and ponchos are hand woven, the wool fedoras are made in the U.S, the hats are hand knit and everything is hand-dyed.
The fur poms:
Loveknitz matches their hats with fur poms which are removable. In most other brands, the fur poms are permanently attached to the hats, or the fur is secured with a button, which is visible when the fur is detached. Kristin selected a fur pom that comes with a pin, which allows it to be easily attached or removed from the hat. Loveknitz?s furrier is located in New York, where he hand-makes the pom poms and key/purse chains. The fur itself comes from Finland.
Kristin grew up in Sweden and Germany and moved to the U.S. when she was 17 years old. She attended DePaul University, earning a degree in Psychology. Kristin enjoyed working in a managerial role for over 15 years, most recently opening and running a boutique retail store in Oak Brook, IL before launching her company.
