Chicago-based Marx-Saunders Gallery, Ltd. is internationally recognized as one of the top galleries exhibiting fine glass sculpture.
Founded in 1990 by owner Bonnie Marx, the gallery has championed masters of the studio glass movement and helped raise awareness of this unique, challenging medium world-wide. Its intimate stable of roughly 25 artists represents the best talent the movement has to offer, including Italian master Lino Tagliapietra, American Dante Marioni and Swede Bertil Vallien.
Since 1990, the gallery has expanded three times. In 1995, partner Ken Saunders joined and the gallery added an additional floor of exhibition space, bringing its total floor space to 7,000 square feet. The gallery now features two main exhibition galleries, several private viewing rooms, a lecture area, conference room and library. The expansive, uncluttered showrooms are flooded with streaming sunlight that brings out the natural beauty of the glass forms.
With works bound together by media and not aesthetic, visitors will find a wide range of style, content and technique. The gallery focuses on the most ambitious work available, often displaying large scale and complex pieces. In addition to a yearly program of six exhibitions and seven art fairs, the gallery also publishes a catalog of gallery artwork each month. These catalogs preview upcoming shows and new work by gallery artists.
