Chicago native Heidi Hess (former broadcaster on Q101 and WLUP) was in Los Angeles at the VH1 awards in spring 2004 wearing a shawl her mother hand-knit to her specifications. With overwhelming inquiries and compliments that evening (including one from Janet Jackson’s entourage), Heidi was inspired to reinvent herself and launch Heidi Hess Designs as a ready-to-wear women’s line.
Heidi Hess Designs include:

What started with one shawl has evolved into an entire collection of Heidi Hess hand-loomed designs with showrooms in Chicago and New York. Heidi, a self-proclaimed knitwear collector says, “I have educated myself on everything concerning the knit business. I have the expertise and ideas to create beautiful hand-loomed pieces for my stylish customer.” Her collections include classic styles as well as the latest trends. “I definitely have deep feelings for the poncho, as this was my first really successful piece. I am particularly fond of my trademarked ‘Hoodie Ponch!’ It’s my biggest seller to date.” Her style is consistently inventive, exciting and relentlessly surprising.
Heidi’s pieces have been showcased at Miami Fashion Week, on EXTRA, in Deco Drive Miami, FashionChicago and StyleChicago.com’s The Art of Fashion. Her knits have been seen on celebrities including Jada Pinkett Smith and Sheryl Crow. Her innovative designs push the boundaries of fashion while remaining approachable, stunning and uniquely her own.
