Through their connection to South Africa, Handicraft Soul forms meaningful partnerships with artisans to ensure they work in an uplifting, safe environment and are fairly compensated for their unique, high-quality handmade goods, which include cooler bags, Batik scarves and leggings, purses and bags, home decor and a children’s line.
Many of the goods the artisans use are environmentally-friendly, upcycled or repurposed (such as old billboards and tire inner tubes), as a way to keep discarded materials out of the landfill.
The company logo features an Adinkra symbol originating from Ghana. It stands for unity and abundance. At Handicraft Soul, they strongly believe that through unified efforts, we can achieve abundance for all.
Started by Ashley and Max Andersen, a bi-national husband + wife team, they split theirr time between our two respective home countries, South Africa and the USA (Wisconsin). While in South Africa, they have come across so many talented artisans who have inspired their current collection of goods. Ashley and Max have personally curated everything they sell, and they value having a connection with the individuals and artisan groups they feature. It is important to them to ensure that everyone they work with is paid fairly for their work, and works in a safe, uplifting environment.
