The Dara Schuman Ceramics collection includes variously sized and shaped vases, planters, and mugs. Each piece is thrown on the pottery wheel and additional elements such as flowers and handles are hand-crafted and attached to the piece. Dara finishes her work with simple, earth-toned glazes. She never use any molds or templates, so each piece created is truly, uniquely one-of-a-kind and meticulously handmade.
Height and tiers in her ceramics have become a favored hallmark of Dara’s work, in addition to the incredibly intricate flower detailing she adds to many of her pieces. Yes, the Dara Schuman Ceramics are functional, but they are clearly fine-art art pieces too.
About the Founder:
Dara Schuman is a ceramicist based in Chicago, IL. She first discovered clay in a high school art class, and fell in love with the medium. She is now working full time out of an artist-run studio collective that houses ceramicists and other artists. Dara’s main focus is creating highly-detailed, fine artwork. Her pieces usually embody the form of a wheel thrown vessel with carefully constructed and attached details. These details include delicate flowers, jutting columns and tapered tiers. She continues to explore new creative avenues while expanding upon existing series.
