Angela Venarchik of Angela Venarchik Ceramics is an artist living on Lake Michigan in Chicago, Illinois. Her functional work is minimal and neat, placing an emphasis on form and function rather than image and decoration. The surface of her pieces explore texture and fields of color, often incorporating the raw and natural clay body into the design. Her aesthetic is inspired by the landscape of the Prairie State that surround Chicago and Lake Michigan and the simple designs of modern Japanese pottery.
We are featuring Angela Venarchik Ceramics along with 100+ of Chicago’s finest artisans in food, fashion, home goods + art at the Chicago Artisan Market at Morgan Manufacturing (401 N. Morgan St., Chicago) on Sunday, July 22, 2018 (10am-4pm).
Each piece is unique and no two pieces are exactly the same, so every Angela Venarchik Ceramics bowl, cup, mug, vase and tea pot tells its own story.
The Northerner Mugs (pictured above) are matte white with flecks of iron and stone-like to the touch outside. The inside has a clear speckled glaze. These multi-functional 14 oz. mugs are both dishwasher and microwave safe.
All ceramic work is handmade by Angela in a community studio in Chicago. On her functional pieces, you will find touches of refinement and local inspiration. For example, the handles on her tea pots are handmade with brass and Lake Michigan driftwood.
