Lots of alt, indie, punk and synth rock stars hail from -- and profess their affection for -- the great city of Chicago, including Smashing Pumpkins, Plain White T's, Kanye West and Wilco. Even those who left for warmer climates, including Fall Out Boy, OK Go, Liz Phair and Alkaline Trio, often pay tribute to Chi-Town.
See the homes, clubs, recording studios and favorite hangouts of famous rock stars on this two-and-a-half-hour bus tour led by Phil Rockrohr, a Chicago writer, teacher, musician and rabid fan of rock music.
You'll see the hotel where Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love conceived Frances Bean; the glitzy nightclub owned by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and frequented by sports and entertainment's biggest stars; the recording studios used by Smashing Pumpkins, Wilco, Ministry, Kanye West, Nine Inch Nails, The Cure, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more; the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park homes of Billy Corgan and Liz Phair; the bowling alley where Fall Out Boy, Rise Against, Plain White T's and Alkaline Trio launched their careers; the small club that hosted The Rolling Stones, Kid Rock, Cranberries, Bush and Kanye West; and Chicago landmarks featured in the Plain White T's videos "Hey There, Delilah" and "1, 2, 3, 4." Serving as a backdrop during the ride will be the lyrics paying homage to the Windy City.
