Chicago's Joffrey Ballet began in 1956 when Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino wanted to share with the community their unique American vision of dance that stemmed from their original and truest roots.
Their vision was the soul motivator of the Joffrey Ballet, which is now considered one of the most famous ballet companies in the world and has been a graceful, cultural must-see for Chicago's residents and visitors for decades.
The company's 42 dancers perform the elegant October-May season at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University in Chicago.
The Joffrey Ballet's elegant repertoire consists of both classical and contemporary works as well as the December favorite, The Nutcracker, which is performed in conjunction with the Chicago Sinfonietta.
In August 2008 the Joffrey Ballet moved into their first permanent new home at the Joffrey Tower located at 10 Randolph Street. This new location is also home to the Joffrey Academy of Dance, the official school of the Joffrey Ballet, which opened in January 2009.
