Plungerhead by The Other Guys
A Family Business: California's Oldest Wine Family
When Samuele Sebastiani moved to America in 1895 he bought a small vineyard just north of the City of Sonoma, California, and began selling bulk wine. As the years progressed, the vineyard was passed from generation to generation, where Samuele’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have expanded his business and branding to see vast and explosive company growth.
Today, this small family-owned vineyard in Northern California has blossomed into a company eager to keep reputation and quality alive. Officially made its own company in 2010, The Other Guys is run by company president August Sebastiani – a fourth generation member of one of California’s oldest wine families. August and his sister Mia strive to reclaim the time-honored philosophy of a hard-working, family-run operation.
2009 Plungerhead Lodi Zinfandel: Tasting Notes & Pairings
This 2009 blend might be their best yet. Dark ruby in color with flecks of orange throughout, the 2009 Plungerhead Lodi Zinfandel has an old vine character thanks to 30-60 year old vines. Aromas of jammy raspberry mixed with hints of orange rind, clove & rich caramel oak make this a quintessential Lodi Zinfandel. Flavors of dried strawberry, dark raspberry, plum sauce, cedar & pomegranate make for a sweet fruity, toasty oak & warm spice finish.
Pairings:
Pulled pork sandwiches with BBQ sauce & sweet potatoe fries
Spicy fried chicken with mashed potatoes and creamy gravy
Grilled polish sausage topped with roasted peppers on an onion roll served with macaroni salad dusted with smoked paprika
2008 Dry Creek Valley Old Vine Zinfandel: Tasting Notes & Pairings
The 2008 Dry Creek Valley Old Vine Zinfandel is a seamless blend with all the richness & spice you'd expect from a high end Dry Creek Zinfandel. Aromas of jammy plum, dark raspberry, fresh tobacco leaf, sweet leather & clove spice exude from this dark purple variety. Flavors of dark cherries, molasses, dried blueberries & wild strawberries are all finished with notes of black tea, red currants, Asian spice and light caramel.
Pairings:
Thinly sliced grilled venison with fresh arugula and fig jam on a rustic Italian roll
Porterhouse steak with sautéed wild mushrooms and parsnip puree
Fettuccine Bolognese with roasted garlic bread
