Great Spa Dates
Nothing says romance like a candlelit room covered in rose petals, a relaxing Swedish massage, facial, or stone and crystal journey, where you’ll be side-by-side with your main squeeze.
Go On A Journey Together:
Located just a short distance from the city, Silken Tent (2300 Chestnut Ave, Glenview, IL, 847.510.1240), has plenty to offer those looking for something beyond the traditional.
While this 11,000-square-foot spa has only been open for nine months, it houses plenty of options for couples seeking the ultimate spa date experience. Start with a couples massage, a popular booking option, where the treatment room has been named “Lucky.”
Those more adventurous couples seeking more of a mind/body connection and a true gem of an experience, could opt for the Stone and Crystal Journey, which rebalances the body by working on the chakras (energy centers located throughout the body).
“It really provides a centering,” said Sherri Stewart, owner of Silken Tent. “I think when they leave, people feel changed; there are no words to describe it.”
For those who seek something out of the ordinary, the “Water Ritual,” a private area of the spa featuring a Monsoon shower, steam room and sauna, can be booked as the last appointment of the day.couples can enjoy a romantic dinner with menu items ranging from herb encrusted salmon to beef tenderloin.
What Silken Tent doesn’t advertise is that with any couples service -- massage, facial or body wrap -- the treatment room is actually booked for an additional 15 minutes after the service concludes, at which time the therapist returns with a surprise tray featuring either chocolates, fresh berries or teas.
“We really thought about how we can make it special,” Stewart said.
For those who prefer the sweet sounds of nature, be on the lookout for outdoor massage services to begin in July.
Romance Just Got A Little More Luxurious:
The ultimate in spa luxury may be found steps from the shops on Michigan Avenue at The Four Season’s Spa (120 E. Delaware Pl., 312.280.8800). Located on the eighth floor of the hotel, The Four Season’s Spa provides fresh strawberries, grapes and a variety of teas in its relaxation lounge before couples are led to the treatment room for the popular Harmony Couples Massage, a Four Seasons Spa signature.
At The Four Season’s Spa, expect rose petals to be sprinkled on the massage table and floor, with a complimentary glass of champagne brought in after the treatment concludes.
“We always step out of the box,” said Dominique Richmond, Spa Group Coordinator at the Four Seasons Spa.
Couples can also choose a manicure or pedicure together, with rose petals floating in the spa bath. The spa also provides a glass of wine, champagne or smoothie after the treatment.
For those looking for a total escape, The Four Seasons offers “The Romance Package,” which includes a modern king room, a 55-minute Harmony Couples Massage (with a 20 percent discount), a $75 credit for dinner at Seasons Restaurant, breakfast in bed (or in the restaurant) for the duration of the stay, complimentary champagne and truffles, and a $50 gift card valid for any shop located at 900 North Michigan Avenue.
Add One On:
Lincoln Park Massage Spa (630 W. Webster Ave., 773.296.6300), attracts people for some of the most special occasions.
“For special occasions we try to do neat little things,” said owner Christine Ramsey, who has seen wedding proposals in her reception area.
At Lincoln Park Massage Spa, each treatment room has a theme, ranging from a Caribbean beach to an oriental garden.
While couples can opt for a Swedish or deep tissue massage, special aromatherapy massage oils can be added for an additional charge. Guests also have the option to customize any couples package with add-ons, including a 15-minute scalp and head massage, revitalizing eye treatment, facial or paraffin treatment for the hands and feet.
For the ultimate spa package, couples can also opt to have a manicure and/or pedicure at Essential Nail Salon, one of the spa’s partners located down the street. The spa will also gladly make dining arrangements.
“If the couple asks for restaurant recommendations, we will gladly give them some ideas and even make reservations if they would like,” Ramsey said.
Of particular note, there is a florist next door where men have requested a dozen roses be waiting for their date when they step out of their treatment.
Not Just For Guys Anymore:
SIR Spa (5151 N. Clark St., 773.271.7000), as the name suggests, targets itself to a predominantly male clientele.
Sir Spa boasts three “Signature Date Night” packages. Couples can choose from the Signature, Hot Stone and Body and Soul treatments. According to Mitchell Drinkard, SIR Spa Guest Services Manager, the packages are customizable based on the needs and requests of the individual couples.
All packages include a one hour massage (in separate treatment rooms), a glass of wine at the end of the service and a discount toward dinner at one of the spa’s partner restaurants located in Andersonville (La Cocina de Frida, La Donna Italian Cuisine and Andies), where reservations will be made for you upon request.
While the spa can provide wine and favorites like chocolate covered strawberries, couples also have the option to bring a bottle of champagne. Perhaps nothing says “I Love You” more than popping the cork of a good bottle of bubbly.
Big Things Come In Small Packages:
Urban Spa Chic (1401 W. Hubbard St., 312.492.8050) provides a small, boutique atmosphere, which can be very attractive to couples looking for that extra touch of solitude.
Since Urban Spa Chic boasts a smaller, more intimate feel, it can accommodate many different requests.According to manager Joseph Trankina, the spa prides itself on being service oriented.
“As soon as the couple arrives, they’re whisked away,”said Trankina. “Because we are so small, we gear ourselves much more toward customer service.”
While a couples massage is certainly a popular item, some prefer to book a manicure or pedicure together. Most menu items are a la carte, and can be customized so couples have the option of creating their own spa experience together.
Set the Night To Music:
SpaForever (1917 N. Damen Ave., 773.394.0000), offers couples massages with something extra in the room—two iPod docking stations so that both people can bring iPods and listen to their own or each others’ playlists during the treatment.
While there are few things more romantic than a playlist filled with Marvin Gaye or Sade, SpaForever likes to focus on the entire experience.
“We are one of the few spas in the city to accommodate a really nice couples massage,” said Kerri Kuster, manager of operations. “We’re a very upscale, relaxed and friendly staff.”
Couples can choose a massage, or a two-hour “Couple Treat” package that includes a massage and a facial.
